(a) A solid steel shaft transmits a power of 90 kw at 240 rpm .Taking working stress As 75 mpa find suitable diameter of shaft. if maximum torque transmitted in each Revolution exceeds the mean torque by 20% .find the outer diameter of shaft Where inside is 0.8 times of outside diameter which replaces the solid shaft.

(b) Write a short note on following

(i) Standardization

(ii) Interchangeability

(c) A solid circular shaft is subjected to a bending moment of 3.46 KN-m and a torsional moment

of 11.5 KN-m.The shaft is made up of C45 steel and factor of safety is 6.Determine the diameter of shaft.the ultimate shear stress is 500 Mpa

(d) Discuss the phenomenon of creep briefly.

(e) What do you understand by coupling? Explain its function and advantages.

(f) What are keys? Explain any five types of keys through neat and clean Diagram. Also discuss their uses.

(g) What is function of clutch? Describe briefly various types of clutches.

(h) What do you understand by design and types of design also explain design Procedure.

#### a) Assuming uniform wear ,determine the maximum, minimum and average pressure in a plate clutch when the axial force is 7KN.The inside radius of the contact surface is 50 mm and outside radius is 100 mm

b) Design and draw a protective type flange coupling for a steel shaft transmitting 14 kw at 260 rpm and having allowable shear stress 42 mpa the working stress in bolt should not exceed 30 mpa. Assume the same material is used for shaft and key and crushing stress is twice the shearing stress .the maximum torque is 20% greater than full load torque. the shear stress for cast iron is 14 mpa

c) Design a knuckle joint to transmit an axial load of 140kn assume the working stress For both pin and rod material as 80 n/mm2 in tension, 68 n/mm2 in shear and 160 N/mm²in crushing.
